25.06.2022, 10. day, 70 / 947 km, Saas-Grund

My sleeping bag stayed relatively dry, but Klaus' did not. But we did not have to set up our tents in the cold and wet weather because we stayed in the community tent instead. Besides us there was one other (young) biker. Roman did not have anything against having roommates, but he left shortly before 6 am to ride in the mountains. The sun is shining today, but in the morning it is cold (7°C) at around 1350 meters above sea level.
We arrive at the restaurant that we ate at yesterday, and we have a delicious breakfast from the friendly staff members.
Next we ride on special bike paths near Furka Street, which later turns into Kanton Street and goes all the way to Lake Geneva. These roads are so horrible to ride on (large gravel) that we had to go slowly and eventually change roads on Furka Street. Then we ride quickly downhill over Brig until Visp. Here we turn left into Saastal. At first, the bike path strangely goes under a newly built street (or railway?), but then before Stalden, it goes up above the street. Here we end up on the street again, one that we have to take an extremely steep journey on. It is so steep that one cannot push up their bike alone. The path eventually runs level. The road forks shortly after Stalden. Täsch and Zermatt are to the right, and Saas-Grund and Saas-Fee are straight ahead. From here we really go up. From Visp to Saas-Grund we must overcome 900 meters of elevation, and at Stalden we have to take the street. Some of the cars drive very close to us slow traveling bikers without taking into consideration that we need a lot of space while traveling 4km/h. There are numerous tunnels. They are not very dark inside, but we still fear that we are not fully visible. It turns out okay, and we arrive at our destination in the late afternoon.
We are greeted warmly, and even our laundry is washed!
We want to have a week of proper vacation and hike a lot in the mountains. If you are just interested in the bike days: we will be heading back on July 2nd, but on a different route.
Nevertheless I want to try to post pictures and write about our hikes.

In this big tent we could sleep

Morning at the campground

On the way to breakfast

The river Rotten is called Rhone after Visp

At Brigg it is already much bigger

Strange bike road from Visp to Stalden

Here we are still high above the main road

Stepp path in Stalden

Turn right to get to Zermatt and the most famous mountain in Switzerland (Matterhon)

In these tunnels we are afraid not to be seen by the car drivers

The river Vispa close near the road

Four falls on top of each other near Saas-Baalen

At last in Saas-Grund, our destination

In 'Haus Quelle' (means House Spring) is our vacation home
