05.07.2022, 17. day, 139 / 1316 km, Schuttern

After the already known good breakfast at the hotel I say goodbye to Klaus who is leaving for the train station.
First I ride almost all the way back to Lörrach, which is the third time (twice there and once back). On the way I encounter a herd of cows that are obviously waiting to be milked.
At Lörrach I turn to the north. The terrain often goes up and down, but the slopes are relatively short compared to the mountain passes in the alps. But they still slow me down. I have decided to go to the campground in Schuttern (about 20km south of Kehl), which is about 140km, of which 50km go through the Black Forest mountains.
It goes well. The weather is nice all day, the temperature is around 24°C at first, and then about 30°C, with almost no wind. I enjoy riding in the summer, the different fragrances of freshly mowed hay, pine forests and - bakeries.
Again I have to make the experience that some people's egotism knows no bounds. As I ride along the road at about 20km/h, suddenly an SUV comes shooting backwards out of a driveway to my right, forcing me to very quickly move to the other side of the street. Thankfully there is no cross-traffic. Then the driver yells at me that I am riding too fast...
But that encounter is quickly forgotten. Now the route leads me to the Rhine River where there are almost no slopes and I make good progress on my journey. The bike path is right next to the road most of the time, and after a while the many cars are annoying.
Just as I start to believe that there are no ice cream shops in this area I find one after the next curve. The amarena cup is yummy.
Finally I arrive at the campground in Schuttern. It is nicely situated and has a swimming lake as well as a giant tent meadow where I feel kind of lost with my little tent. But it has one disadvantage: it is not far from the highway, but the noise is bearable. Also I only pay 5.50 Euros to set up my tent here.
After all the up and down I am now pretty tired. I will probably sleep well despite the highway noise.

What are these cows waiting for?

Ducks and swans on the Rhein river

It goes a long time along the railway

Often uphill

Castle Rötteln near Lörrach

The grapes are growing

Down to the Rhine valley
