Finally another trip is starting. After 9 (!) years I am starting another long bicycle trip. I want to ride to Saas-Grund (Switzerland) together with my brother, go hiking there for one week and then return (by bicycle). Today we are going to a campground called 'Golden Mile' in Remagen.
Shortly after 7am I leave from my home and pick up my brother in Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf. His condo is on the way.
The weather is wonderful: optimal temperatures, sunshine, blue sky and - a tailwind! The ideal beginning for this trip.
We first pass through Wuppertal and Solingen to Leverkusen where we briefly visit the Pfriem family (Klaus' daughter).
After that we have to continue quickly; half of the day's trip is still ahead of us. Now we are following the Rhine River, mostly on good bike trails. Unfortunately there are vast numbers of people traveling on those trails, by bicycle (mostly e-bikes), on foot and inline skates. We have to slow down a lot to accommodate the travelers, but are still making headway. Of course we stop at an ice cream place.
Finally we get to the campground after 140km and are able to set up our tents. In the campground's restaurant I can write this report and choose pictures to post while eating spaghetti and salad.
Tonight we are going to sleep well.
