07.07.2022, 19. day, 114 / 1574 km, Guldental 2

After an amazing breakfast with Konrad and Brunhilde I get on my way. A strong northwesterly wind blows that gains in strength throughout the day. But I need to go precisely northwest. On level ground I just barely achieve a speed of 10km/h, and I often have to pedal downhill. This makes it difficult to progress, but I am happy that it does not rain (for now).
The journey through Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Worms is tiring as always in heavy traffic, but on the upside there are some well-marked bike paths. However, the bike routes are confusing sometimes. My navigation app is very useful for this.
I can finally breathe deeply after getting out of the bustling city, thanks to the wind. But the clouds start to get darker, and i preemptively take out my rain jacket. It really does start to rain hard, but thankfully only for a short time. Between vineyards and the A5 highway there is no way to get shelter from the rain, so I just continue riding. That ends up being the only time it rains, and the wind dries me quickly.
I come across the vineyards in Flonheim again, where I am reminded of the tiring uphill journey on the way here that had a 15% uphill slope.
There is a lot of traffic again in Alzey, causing me to barely make it across the street. However, I take a coffee break here, during which I almost fall asleep at the table. The headwind really wears me down.
The campground in Guldental is not far from here. The app wants to lead me over the mountain with the locked gate, but I choose a lower entrance instead, one where I do not have to climb over a fence ...
At the campground they still recognize me, even in the restaurant, where I treat myself to a schnitzel.
I plan to make it to Remagen tomorrow. Hopefully the wind dies down a bit and I do not encounter any rain showers.
