We leave early from Remagen. Our muscles are not sore, nor our butts from sitting on the bike the whole day yesterday. It is still relatively cool and we have a headwind. First we use the ferry to cross over to the right side of the Rhine River. After 26km we are able to have a good breakfast in Neuwied. Just before Koblenz it happens: an older gentleman on the bike trail does not hear my bell and switches into my lane just as I am about to pass him. I slam into a wall and am able to catch myself, but the camera flies out of the front bag and is totally destroyed by landing on the asphalt. We find an electronics store (Saturn) in Koblenz, which is unfortunately almost completely out of cameras. It looks like it is going to close down for good. For now Klaus is letting me use his camera, but I want to see if I can perhaps get one in Heidelberg. The ride along the Rhine River is very beautiful landscape-wise. It is not as crowded as on the holiday yesterday. We take two ferries. Starting in Bingen we are no longer following the Rhine River. It is still about 15km until the campground in Guldental by Bad Kreuznach. After a good meal in the restaurant we are looking forward to the sleeping bag. |
