No, it is not raining. At least not during the ride. We begin in glorious weather after a good breakfast. An old wooden bridge connects Bad Säckingen to Switzerland over the Rhine River. There are nicely paved bike paths here. After about 20km we go uphill for a vertical distance of 620m, which did not make us all that tired. It will be more difficult tomorrow. Next we pass Lake Sempach, and then Lake Lucerne. The whole time we get to enjoy the glorious view of the Alps. We can already see snow-covered peaks in the distance. Klaus' iPhone won't charge anymore. We make a detour to a Mediamarkt store in Kriens. Here a very kind young man sells us a smartphone that is good enough for our purposes. He lets us call the campground to let them know that we will be arriving after the reception closes. It turns out not to be a problem. We continue to the idyllic Lake Sarnen, the campground being at the southern tip. We set up our tents quickly, and after a shower we help ourselves to a feast at the restaurant. A thunderstorm breaks out during our meal, but we sit inside, dry. Tomorrow will be the most difficult day of our journey. We have to go over the Grimsel Mountain pass (2160 m). We will see how it goes. |
